University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Center for Public Issues Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (PIE Center) Director Ricky Telg has been named Distinguished Ag Communications Educator by the American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE). This award acknowledges the accomplishments of individual members for their outstanding work in teaching, research, and extension in the agricultural communications field.
Telg was recognized for his extensive work in agricultural communications education through UF’s Department of Agricultural Education and Communication (AEC). He currently serves as faculty adviser for the UF Agricultural Communicators and Leaders of Tomorrow (ACLT) and teaches two agricultural communications courses for the AEC department.
“Dr. Telg’s dedication and passion for the field was obvious to me from day one and his work ethic is truly inspiring,” Alexandra Morrison, PIE Center intern and graduate student minoring in agricultural communications said. “He is the type of professor that will have a lasting impact on you because of his strong desire to help students succeed. I’m thankful for having the opportunity to learn from Dr. Telg.”
Previously, Telg worked in partnership with the National Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow organization as faculty advisor for five years. He received Teacher of the Year honors from the UF College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) in 1997 and 2011 and was recognized as CALS Advisor of the Year in 2000 and 2014.
The award was presented to Telg at the 2021 American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE) National Conference. Telg qualified for the award after receiving the corresponding honor at the AAAE Southern Region Conference earlier this year.
