On average, Americans report spending $151 on food for their family each week, and the average household spends around 13% of its income on food (Mendes, 2012; U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). While Americans spend less of their money on food today compared to 30 years ago, food costs are still clearly significant to many Floridians (Vo, 2012). These results may indicate that some Floridians are willing to buy genetically modified foods if they can save money. However, with 29% of Floridians unsure if they would purchase a genetically modified food product if it cost less, many may not be ready to consider this option.
