A 2015 study estimated that 30 percent of the global food supply is lost or wasted. According to government data, 25 million people could be fed each year if Americans threw out just 15 percent less food. Join Dr. Joy Rumble, from the UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Ashley Pennington, from the Johns Hopkins Office of Sustainability, as they discuss food waste and food sustainability. Dr. Rumble will present on recent public opinion survey results outlining Floridian’s outlook on food waste and the specific types and amounts of food being wasted in homes. Ms. Pennington will incorporate food waste information with current projects at Johns Hopkins University to provide a greater understanding of the issue and how waste can be reduced. This webinar will provide useful insight for those involved in the food industry whether you are a producer, involved in a relevant commodity group, or simply a consumer that is concerned about the issue.
