Faculty members with the UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources discussed pubic opinion issues with staff members from Senator Bill Nelson’s office on October 18, 2016.
Senator Nelson’s staff members, Caitlin Hart and Lisa Marshall, visited the University of Florida to learn about research that is being conducted at the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
PIE Center director Ricky Telg and agricultural education and communication assistant professors Alexa Lamm and Joy Rumble shared public opinion research conducted by the PIE Center on such issues as food safety, genetically modified organisms, and water quantity and quality.
“Turning research into understanding is a goal of the PIE Center,” Telg said. “Providing our public opinion research results to opinion leaders is an important component needed to bridge the gap.”
Results provided by the PIE Center to public opinion leaders and legislators can inform these decision makers about Florida residents’ perceptions of agricultural and natural resources issues.
PIE Center issue guides, which compile the most important findings from each study to show the results in an easy-to-understand format, served as a resource to help explain the results of the public opinion research.
Issue guides were provided on the topics the PIE Center discussed and gave the staffers a more in-depth look at the research findings.
