GAINESVILLE -Faculty and staff from the Center for Public Issues Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources met with the PIE Center’s Advisory Board for the center’s annual board meeting at the Florida Farm Bureau building in Gainesville, Florida on Friday, October 21.
Board members were briefed by PIE Center staff about work the center has done over the past year and updated as to projects to come. PIE Center graduate and undergraduate students also shared their ongoing research during an informal poster presentation.
Together, board members gave suggestions refining their vision of the center’s outlook and collaboratively applauded the PIE Center’s continued work in the field of public issues education.
As part of the meeting’s closing remarks, advisory board member Rosemary Fagler praised the center for its growth and maturity over the years. Adding to that, outgoing advisory board chairman Bo Beaulieu said he was pleased with the input of the advisory board and is confident that they have continued to fulfill the board’s intent by providing useful suggestions and support to the PIE Center.
Ron Hamel, executive vice president for the Gulf Citrus Growers Association, was selected as the incoming chairman and will begin his term in August 2017. Additionally, Jaime Jerrels, assistant director of agricultural policy for Florida Farm Bureau and Lisa Lundy, associate professor in the department of agricultural education and communication at the University of Florida, were both elected to serve on the PIE Center Executive Committee.
