Michaela Shaw

Department of Food and Resource Economics, Undergraduate Student

Michaela Shaw began working as a media assistant with the PIE Center in January of 2018. She is a fourth year student majoring in food and resource economics. She plans to graduate in May 2019. After graduation, Shaw aspires to attend graduate school to earn a master’s degree in agricultural education and communication.

Working at the PIE Center has helped Shaw focus her passion and develop valuable skills she can use in other areas of her life.

“Being a student worker at the PIE Center has helped me to really define my passion for agriculture and the field of communications,” said Shaw. “I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from smart and talented staff, which has allowed me to personally grow. Because of this experience, I am now confident in my ability to effectively communicate issues in agriculture with consumers and I hope to continue these skills after graduation.”

Regarding the agriculture industry, Shaw says she enjoys its family-like atmosphere. Growing up in Mayo, Florida, agriculture has always been an integral part of her life.

In her free time, Shaw enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her dog, Poppy.

Shaw’s favorite quote: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3

Fun Fact: “There are 9 seasons and 201 episodes of The Office, and I have seen them all. Twice.”
