Designed specifically for homeowners, the Florida Homeowner’s Handbook to Prepare for Natural Disasters is a critical resource for anyone wanting to reduce the risks to both their family and property from the threats of natural hazards. This handbook covers basic information on emergency preparedness, evacuation planning, flood and wind insurance, and steps to take to protect your property. With September being FEMA’s National Preparedness Month and the start of peak hurricane season, now is the perfect time for homeowners to review their own level of preparedness and take steps to prevent future storm damage to their property.

On Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. Eastern, the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Center for Public Issues Education (PIE Center) will conduct a webinar on the newly updated Florida Homeowner’s Guide. Rhett Register, communications coordinator at Florida Sea Grant, and Dr. Angela Lindsey, Point of Contact for the Florida Extension Disaster Education Network, will present the handbook, highlight some of the key information found inside, provide recommendations on its use and promotion, and answer questions from the audience.
