On Saturday, October 16th, PIE Center faculty, staff, family, and pets participated in the 2021 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a fundraising event aimed at supporting the care and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Participants gathered at Trinity United Methodist Church early Saturday morning, many holding colorful flowers, representing their connection to this disease. The event started with an opening ceremony that included stories of those impacted by Alzheimer’s, highlighting the importance of this fundraiser.
The ceremony also served as a moment to reflect on the event’s success. With bystanders gathered around the stage, presenters announced the event had raised $100,000 in support of the Alzheimer’s Association, surpassing their original goal of $95,000. The PIE Center team raised $440 in contribution to this goal.
Shortly after, PIE Center staff and other participants eagerly moved to the starting line and began the two-mile walk to celebrate of this fundraising milestone.
“It was great to have a PIE Center team at the Alzheimer’s walk this year,” PIE Center staff Ashley McLeod Morin said. “I lost my grandmother to Alzheimer’s shortly after moving away for college, so it means a lot to see others supporting this cause.”
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s event is held in over 600 communities around the nation and is the largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. To learn more about Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Alzheimer’s Association, or to make a donation, visit https://act.alz.org.
