Agricultural education and communication graduate student Cheng-xian Yang presents a poster at the National Agricultural Communications Symposium (NACS).

New Orleans, Louisiana — Faculty, staff and graduate students recently traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to present research conducted by the UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education (PIE Center).

From February 10-15, 2022, the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists (SAAS) annual meeting brought together scientists from various agricultural disciplines. PIE Center research was represented in two sections of SAAS: the National Agricultural Communications Symposium (NACS) and Rural Sociology.

The PIE Center presented a total of 3 papers and 8 posters on topics ranging from perceptions of COVID-19 to social media use among farmers. At the conclusion of the conference, multiple PIE Center researchers were recognized for the quality of their work.

Outstanding Research Paper

Agricultural education and communication graduate students Meredith Oglesby and Olivia Doyle were awarded Outstanding Research Paper for their paper titled Tempered Trust: Understanding College Students’ Trust of COVID-19 Video Content Using Moment-to-Moment Analysis.

Other authors included Lauri Baker, Valentina Castano, Ashley McLeod-Morin, Alena Poulin and Lisa Lundy.

Second Runner-Up Research Posters — People’s Choice

Ashley McLeod-Morin, associate director of strategic communication for the Southeastern Coastal Center for Agricultural Health and Safety, received Second Runner-Up People’s Choice Award for her research poster: It All Goes Back to Trust” A Qualitative Exploration of Extension Professionals’ Perceptions of COVID-19 Vaccines in Rural Florida.
Agricultural education and communication graduate student Valentina Castano also received Second Runner-Up People’s Choice Award for her research poster: What Do They Know? A Quantitative Survey Seeking to Understand Producers’ Knowledge of State Regulatory Best Management Practices.
