Description: Effective communication is essential at all levels of disaster management to prepare communities and support recovery before and after hurricanes. This session explores practical strategies and tools for planning, implementing, and assessing communication efforts across all phases of a disaster, including preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. Participants will learn to identify key audiences, determine appropriate communication channels, develop clear and appropriate messages, and work effectively with stakeholders, partners, and media to ensure timely, accurate, and trustworthy information. Designed for Extension professionals, communicators, outreach personnel, and community partners, this presentation provides practical, research-informed approaches to building communication resilience and maintaining open communication when it matters most.
