NEWBERRY, FL – The Southeastern Coastal Center for Agricultural Health and Safety (SCCAHS) and UF/IFAS will host the Biosecurity Research Forum on November 16, 2026, bringing together researchers, industry professionals, Extension personnel, and agricultural health and safety leaders to address emerging biosecurity challenges across the Southeast. The forum begins at 9:00 a.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension-Alachua County Auditorium in Newberry, Florida.

The forum will examine the growing risks posed by animal-borne diseases and other infectious threats that affect the region’s agricultural, fishing, and forestry industries. Attendees will learn about the latest research, response strategies, and resources that can strengthen preparedness and resilience throughout the agricultural sector.

“Biosecurity threats continue to evolve and present significant challenges for agriculture and natural resource industries throughout the Southeast,” said Ashley McLeod-Morin, Associate Director of Strategic Communication for SCCAHS and Extension Scientist with UF/IFAS. “This event provides an important opportunity for stakeholders to learn from leading experts, share knowledge, and strengthen regional preparedness efforts.”

Researchers, Extension professionals, and industry experts are encouraged to submit poster abstracts highlighting innovative research and outreach initiatives related to biosecurity in agriculture, natural resources, and public health. The forum seeks submissions on topics including zoonotic diseases such as avian influenza, animal, plant, and vector-borne disease surveillance, invasive species, and food-borne illnesses. Presenters will showcase accepted posters during the forum. The deadline to submit poster abstracts is October 16, 2026.

On November 17, 2026, SCCAHS and UF/IFAS will host an in-service training focused on biosecurity strategies for UF/IFAS Extension personnel at the same location. Extension personnel can register for the training through the UF/IFAS Program Development and Evaluation Center website.

Registration for the Biosecurity Research Forum is now open. Visit the SCCAHS website for registration details, poster abstract submission instructions, and additional event information. Questions about the event may be directed to Dr. Ashley McLeod-Morin at ashleynmcleod@ufl.edu.
