What is the PIE Center?

Turning Research into Practice

The UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (or “PIE Center”) examines how people think about, form, and act on opinions regarding complex agricultural and natural resources issues. The PIE Center’s research and educational programs help enable the public and policymakers to make informed decisions about Florida’s agriculture and natural resources sectors, specifically in these three areas: • Ensure Floridians’ responsible use of water and conservation of natural resources. • Equip Florida communities and organizations to understand and adapt to changing agricultural and natural resources issues. • Identify communication strategies to support and grow Florida’s food and agricultural economy.

Our Mission

The UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education conducts and disseminates objective interdisciplinary research and educational programs to increase public understanding of and engagement in agricultural and natural resources issues.

Our Vision

The UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education will be the preeminent research and education organization on the social science perspectives of agricultural and natural resources issues to promote a more informed and engaged public.

PIE Center makes an impact

The PIE Center collaborates with state and federal agencies, private industry and academic institutions on grant-supported research that enables faculty and staff to explore agricultural and natural resources issues. PIE Center research is impacting individuals and communities throughout the state and nation as research findings are helping organizations better communicate with their audiences. Government officials are also impacted by research from the PIE Center as they make vital decisions about agriculture and natural resources.
