Irving, Texas — The UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education (PIE Center) recently traveled to Irving, Texas to present research findings at a national conference.
From January 30 – February 4, 2025, the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists (SAAS) annual meeting brought together scientists from various agricultural disciplines. The PIE Center’s research was presented in the National Agricultural Communications Symposium (NACS) section of the SAAS conference.
PIE Center director Ricky Telg served as the executive treasurer for the NACS officer team for the 2024-2025 academic year. Agricultural education and communication graduate student Kayla Braggs, a PIE Center student assistant, was elected as the 2025-2026 student representative to the NACS officer team.
The PIE Center team presented a total of five papers and six posters on topics ranging from perceptions of the avian flu to best management practices (BMPs) in agriculture. At the conclusion of the conference, multiple PIE Center researchers were recognized for the quality of their work.

First Runner-up Outstanding Paper
PIE Center post-doc, Cheng-Xian Yang, was awarded First Runner-up Outstanding Paper for his paper titled The Cost of Innovation: Exploring Americans’ Perspectives of AI-Assisted Food Traceability and the Food Traceability Final Rule. Other authors included Lauri M. Baker and Li-Yu Liao.
