UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education (PIE Center) communication toolkits are designed to inform target audiences about specific topics related to agriculture and natural resources. While each toolkit serves a unique purpose, all PIE Center toolkits contain key messages backed by research findings, multimedia content ranging from fact sheets to videos and a detailed communication plan. Communication Plan

Offshore Aquaculture in Florida

Responsible aquaculture practices can sustainably provide food security and prepare us to meet future protein demands without increasing the pressure on wild-capture fishery resources. This toolkit was developed in partnership with Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Division of Aquaculture and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS). The purpose of these materials is to educate audiences about aquaculture operations in Florida, potential benefits of responsible offshore aquaculture practices, and how various concerns are being addressed.

Harmful Algal Blooms

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) pose economic and health risks to Florida communities. This toolkit was created in partnership with Florida Sea Grant to inform audiences about the effects of HABs on humans, animals and the ecosystem.

Mosquito Control

Prevent and Protect resources were created to help local officials communicate to Florida residents about the importance of mosquito control efforts. The Mosquito Control Toolkit was developed to educate the public on topics such as personal responsibility, mosquito-borne illness, economic impacts and application methods. The Emergency Response Toolkit contains information about mosquito control emergency response actions, specifically after a natural disaster or during a disease outbreak.

COVID-19 Communication & Extension

The Southeastern Coastal Center for Agricultural Health and Safety (SCCAHS) curated COVID-19 resources for individuals in the agricultural and natural resources sectors. The COVID-19 Vaccine Communication Toolkit was developed to help Extension professionals communicate about the vaccine to rural audiences. The COVID-19 Training Toolkit contains educational materials to support Extension efforts related to COVID-19 health and safety.
